Exterior Foundation Footing Drain for Crawl Space

Some homes were built without footing drains or the drains are so badly deteriorated that they must be replaced. Generally this is accomplished by excavating a trench around the house to a depth below the elevation of the footings. The foundation wall is then cleaned and sealed with a waterproof coating. A perforated drainpipe is installed on the grade to slope towards the final outlet, and covered with drain rock.

In most cases, new tight line drain pipe is installed for roof water control.

Filter fabric is placed over the drain rock to keep the soil from invading the drain and causing a future blockage. Cleanouts are also installed for maintenance and inspection of the footing drain system.

Depending on the topography, the collected water is either drained away by gravity or mechanically pumped out.
